The day after natural hangover cures

Natural hangover cures?….. With the new year , everyone is having a drink or more to celebrate. But after all the fun comes the horrible hangover the next morning that can be quite debilitating. Giving your already fatigued body something natural to detox is a much better idea then pain killers. So, to help you feel great the morning after a party, here are few natural remedies that can help you have a natural hangover cures:

Water:

The best remedy for a hangover is water. Not only does it help re-hydrate you, but it also does not put too much strain on your stomach. While drinking warm water is often more soothing than cold water, having some water just before you go to bed helps reduce the symptoms you experience the next morning. But if you missed that step, don’t worry. Start re-hydrating yourself as soon as you wake up.

Tip: Have at least one glass of water before you go to bed. If this is not possible then have one glass of warm water as soon as you wake up. This will help kick start your digestive system, re-hydrate your body and help beat the symptoms of a hangover. Remember to keep sipping on water throughout the day to help your body beat the effects of all the alcohol you’ve had.

Lemon, sugar and salt water:

This is one of the most effective remedies for a hangover. Since alcohol tends to sap your body of electrolytes, sugars and water, re-hydrating yourself is key. The citric smell of lemon combined with the high amounts of vitamin C it contains helps replenish your body’s stores of nutrients. Further, salt and sugar help replenish lost electrolytes and beat the symptoms of dehydration.

Tip: Take equal amounts of lemon, sugar and salt. Add this to a one liter bottle of water. Warm water works better than cold water, but you can choose what you are comfortable with. Mix all the ingredients in the water and keep sipping on it for relief. A good way to prevent having a hangover is to drink some of this water before you go to bed. And then start your day with a tall glass of this mixture.

Banana and honey milkshake:

Bananas are perfect toa natural hangover cures.. Bananas are full of sugar, potassium, magnesium and vitamin B6. The potassium helps relieve aches and pains throughout your body, helps keep a stomach upset at bay and beats heartburn as well. The magnesium helps relax and dilate your blood vessels and beats that pounding headache. Also,  honey helps digest the alcohol and replenish lost electrolytes and fructose.

Tip: Take one banana and add two to three spoonfuls of honey to it. Put it in a grinder, add some milk  and beat it to make it a smoothie. Drink this mix to help relieve the symptoms of a hangover.

Honey: Had on its own, honey is also a great remedy for a hangover. Packed with fructose, it replenishes the sugars that are lost in the course of alcohol metabolism (when your body tries to metabolize alcohol it loses fructose — causing a drop in your blood sugar levels, which is one of the reasons for a hangover) and helps in the quicker digestion and release of alcohol from the body, relieving the symptoms of a hangover.

Tip: Having about two tablespoons of honey helps beat a hangover. But a better way to use this remedy is to add it to a cup of hot water infused with lemon. All you need to do is boil some water and add the juice of a small piece of lemon (about half a teaspoon)and some honey. Sip on this tea for relief. You could also add some mint leaves for a lovely aroma that can help keep nausea at bay.

Coconut water:

Coconut water is a very good way to get rid of a hangover. Not only does it have more potassium than a banana and more electrolytes than most sports drinks, but it is also great at washing out the toxins from your body. Easy to find in most places, coconut water is cheap and one cup can do wonders. What’s more, it is also light on the stomach is the best antidote for those days when you cannot eat anything.

Tip: Buying some coconut water from your local store is all you need to do. A good preventive measure is to have a glass of coconut water just before you go to bed. This will give your body that much needed boost to start metabolizing all the alcohol you’ve had. Having two to three glasses of coconut water through the day helps beat a hangover and get rid of the toxins in your body.

Fruit juice:

Packed with fructose, fruits and fruit juices are great to beat a hangover. Apart from that the fiber and minerals fresh fruits contain also helps get rid of toxins, replenish lost vitamins in the body and helps the liver metabolise the alcohol faster.

A great remedy for an upset stomach, nausea and vomiting, ginger is perfect to tackle the symptoms of a hangover. Not only does it help in the digestion of alcohol but it also kills off that  nauseous feeling most people have during a hangover.

Tip: All you need to do is cut a few slices of ginger and add it to a pot of boiling water. Allow it to stand for a while and add some mint leaves or some lemon to it. If you want your tea to be sweet you can choose to add a few spoons of honey to the mix. Now sip on this tea while it is still warm for relief from the symptoms of a hangover.

Reflexology:

A science that based on stimulating the working of certain organs by pressing on corresponding points on the body, reflexology can also help beat the symptoms of a hangover. By pressing the points on your body that stimulate your liver, kidneys, stomach, head and solar plexus you give your body that essential boost it needs to overcome the effect of alcohol.

Tip:

Liver point: Present at the center point along the length of your foot. Pressing this point for about five minutes helps improve the function of your liver. It also helps it breakdown and eliminate alcohol from your system

Kidney point: This point is present just below the liver point and pressing it for about five minutes aids in the process of eliminating the toxins from your body.

Head/brain point: Pressing this point helps relieve a headache and therefore makes you feel better after a whole night of partying. Present on the top (fleshy part) of your little finger, pressing this point on both your feet helps relieve a headache.

Stomach point: The idea of stimulating this point is to help your stomach digest the alcohol and flush it out of your system. Also, since alcohol does tend to cause an upset stomach, pressing this point helps prevent that. Present on the outer arch of your right foot, make sure you press on this point for about five minutes.

Solar plexus: This point is meant to help you entire body and its systems realign and helps you feel better on the whole. Present on both your feet at the base of your big toe (feel for the bone also known as the ball of your foot) towards the inner edge of your foot, press this point for five minutes.

You can use the back of a pen to press down on the points. Make sure you do not press down too hard and do not hurt yourself.
