What is the ideal teenage face wash routine?

How often should teenagers wash their face?

As your teen approaches puberty their skin will produce more sebum, a skin oil that can clogs pores and attract acne bacteria.

Encouraging teens to wash their face twice a day – once in the morning and once at night – can help to keep young complexions clean and clear of spots and acne.

However, most teens will need to use more than a flannel and water to wash their face if they want to stop spots from becoming a problem as they progress through their teens.

Which kind of face wash?

Teens should use a face wash that’s made with spot-fighting actives.

Washing with water alone refreshes teenage skin and can remove some of the dirt that skin attracts throughout the day but water will not deeply cleanse the pores and is not particularly effective at removing make-up, skin care or SPF products from the skin.

A natural gentle face wash , which is designed to clean and treat acne or breakouts is recommended, such as Pure Acne face cleanser.

Regular soap bars can be very skin drying and may cause irritation. Skin that becomes too dry will produce more oil to balance itself out and for this reason we do not recommend using soap bars to wash the face.

What age should they start?

For most children the best age to start using face wash is around the age of 10 or 11.

From the age of 12 or 13 most teenagers will start getting spots and some will develop acne but encouraging teens to cleanse their face regularly from an early age will help to establish a healthy skin routine.

To make it easy for young teens to build their skin care routine i can offer the Teenage Facial, which is designed to help prevent and stay on top of their clear face, and i will sure to advise gentle and effective products. The Acne Treatment Kit is a good start, plus having a facial every 6 weeks.
