What is stress and why it can really consume us?

That tension and pressure, physically, that pinches your nerves and drains your energy and often triggers anxiety, worry and throws you out of balance?

At it’s base, stress is fear. Fear that if things don’t happen “a certain way”, we will lose control, get hurt, or experience something we are really afraid of.

It all comes down to fear, in the mind, that creates the hormones of stress, which, sadly, our body gets really addicted to.  These hormones of stress are like drugs to the body and it can be so used to that to start living more stress free lives we really go on a path of withdrawal…

The fear it all comes down to is the fear we won’t achieve, accomplish, or control our world in a certain way – we won’t be enough and won’t be loved.

Again, although you may think most people will do anything to avoid stress, for some it is like an honour- they value stress because it makes them fulfil one of their human needs: significance. 

Now, when significance is a very high need for you, you make your life hard….you search for perfection, you feel always that what you have or do is not good enough, you can not really connect in love etc 

So it is also important to look at what your primal needs are and which one is more important, tony robbins is the one to learn from about the 6 human needs and i am grateful to have him as one of my teachers in life:)

Now, a lot of people won’t even admit this truth, that they need that stress, and so, instead of eliminating fear and stress they try to “deal” with it, or “cope” with it, that’s the wrong way, we want to kill the monster from the root cause….not from the head:)

Where does stress come from? From inside of us, like all emotions and feelings, we create them.

In order to feel stress you have to do 3 things:

  1. Focus on the pressure and the fear and make it bigger then it is
  2. Give the stressor a meaning that leads you to believe that you are going to lose your needs or anything else
  3. Your physiology – your body reacts like crazy to the stressor and your whole nerves system is under attack.

It’s about freeing yourself from the world of reaction, stop reacting and being bothered from all outsides circumstances, it’s about taking back your inner power, focus on your own energy and the fact that you create your reality and not reality creates you…so the little things no longer annoy, aggravate or torture your brain. So, again we have to know, stress, at it’s deepest level is fear.

Fear of loss.

We can turn anything in life to pain of pleasure depending on the meaning we give to it and the story/ belief we have about it. Once we change the belief 80% of the stress is GONE! The rest is being aware of your stressor, having tools that regulate your nervous system (like the breath work i teach), and being prepared- like a mental rehearsal, that when it shows up again you are not triggered.

So again, the two factors i teach that change your life…our beliefs and our feeling state, aka emotional self regulation.
