How to make your Valentine’s day more sustainable

Perhaps you’re searching for ways to make the day special for your someone special. Or you’re more of a Galentine’s Day person. Read on for  tips for a sustainable Valentines Day.

But fret not, sweet Juliet! (Sorry – Shakespeare goes hand in hand with Valentine’s Day as far as we’re concerned!) I have easy ways that you can spread the love without ditching your planet-friendly principles.

Give Experiences

Showing someone how much you appreciate them doesn’t have to mean handing over a wrapped present. Gifting an experience can have just as much meaning, and be longer-lasting than a box of chocolates.

Give the experience of wellness, beauty and health and so much joy- A pampering treatment at Pure Natural Salon🙂

Something Sweet

If you really can’t last Feb 14th without chocolate, then make sure you go Fair Trade. Much has been written about the impact of the chocolate industry on the planet and the people who work in it. So it’s worth thinking a little before you throw a bar in the trolley on your supermarket run.

Say it With Flowers

Valentine’s day and fresh flowers go hand in hand. But the flower industry is not generally thought of as sustainable- when you factor in air miles, heating greenhouses, and waste.

So, find a local florist who purchases ethically (and locally), or ditch the tradition altogether and consider longer-lasting floral art, or something more imaginative from Etsy or any local artist.

Plant a Tree

If you like the flora theme, but don’t have room for more art and you can’t keep pot plants alive for more than 5 minutes, then planting a tree is the perfect solution for you.

Not only can you plant a tree for your loved one, but you can choose a species that fits a particular message. Then you get sent diary updates of your tree, from nursery to sapling and beyond!

Go Out

Expressing your love shouldn’t cost the earth, but it doesn’t have to cost anything at all!

Pack a picnic (in planet-friendly bento boxes of course!), grab a blanket, and walk up a hill. Brave the beach in February for an outdoor swim (take hot chocolate for afterwards!). Sit on a bench in your local park and people watch whilst reconnecting with each other.

However you spend Valentines Day, I am sending you all lots of love!
