The cold season is a great time for a DIY foot spa at home!

We often say it’s a good thing that our feet are hidden away in socks and shoes during the winter. The dry and cracked skin that we inevitably endure can be tough on the eyes. But armed with the right arsenal of products and some DIY know how, you can keep your feet feeling and looking great!

It’s important to understand why your feet are dry and cracked during the winter. Here are several contributing factors that cause dry skin and solutions to avoid it in the first place:

  • Cold, dry air. Unlike the humid air of the summer, cold air in the winter can quickly and severely dehydrate the skin. When temperatures drop, it’s necessary to add an additional moisturizing lotion to your daily mix of products. Apply a moisturizer before you go to bed and after you wake up to your face, hands, and feet. And you may just want to carry Pure Body Butter in your purse for on-the-go applications, too.
  • Extreme outdoor elements. Winter winds can be brutal, especially to the skin. Not only will it dehydrate skin, but it can also leave it irritated. Apply products that calm and repair. Calendula Oil will help to calm irritated skin. Antioxidants (like those in  Night Serum ) will help neutralize free radicals, and moisture rich oils and butters like cocoa, jojoba, and shea will help combat dry skin.
  • Use of home heaters. Blasting the heat indoors can also strip skin of moisture. While it’s necessary to use your home’s heating system during the winter, try to avoid sitting or sleeping in the direct path of a heating . You can also add a humidifier or oil diffuser to your space. It will add moisture to the air, making your home more comfortable and, in our experience, make the air feel warmer. Why every home should have an oil diffuser?
  • Extra wool layers. Your wool socks and mittens do a great job of keeping you warm, but the fibers can irritate skin and make it itchy. Instead, pick cotton socks or throw a cotton shirt on under your favorite wool sweater. Also, be conscious of the laundry detergent you use. Chemical soaps can also contribute to your irritated skin issues.

“Winter feet” at times are unavoidable. But ashy, flaky feet can be transformed. Try this DIY foot spa at-home!. Here is how you can transform your bathroom into a tired foot’s dream:

  • First, exfoliate skin with one of the easy recipes HERE On dry skin, massage a quarter-size amount of scrub on to each foot. This will slough off dead skin cells. And you’re not just pampering your feet! Your hands will benefit from massaging the scrub onto feet!
  • Rinse off scrub and soak feet in warm water for about 10 minutes. When you’re finished you can do additional exfoliation with a pumice stone if necessary.
  • Have rough or dry spots? Rub the Body Butter generously over the problem areas. It will help moisturize, promote the regeneration of new skin cells, and soothe dry, itchy skin.
  • Add moisture. The Dry Hands Lotion is not just for hands! This product is an excellent source of moisture and can help replenish moisture to hard-working feet just as well as it can hands. Generously apply to both feet and then put on a pair of cotton socks to lock in the moisture (and ensure you don’t slip slide around the bathroom floor). For best results moisturize before bed and leave socks on overnight.
  • Moisturize regularly. Using lotion after a bath or shower is always great, but employing the Body Butter and sock combo a couple nights a week will give you super soft results.
  • Book yourself the additional Feet Scrub and Massage on top of your facial- An amazing combination of pampering not only your face, but your feet too!
