What are some daily tips to prevent dry skin this season?

Dry skin can occur during any season, but when there’s no humidity in the air in the winter, it becomes uncomfortable and itchy.

Cold and dry winter conditions typically dehydrate skin by drawing moisture out of the superficial layers and into the air, sometimes causing the skin to dry and crack.

Basically, the air has less moisture during the winter, so it steals more moisture from our skin to compensate.

Also, forced heating inside can steal even more moisture from the air, leaving you with skin that’s itchy, dry, and flaky.

Following the same skin care routine year-round may not work so well when the humidity drops. Without a change in your skin care, dry air can make fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable. Dry, itchy skin can flake, crack, and even bleed.

But, no worries, i gathered here some daily powerful tips you can apply to relief dryness:

  1. Stop baths and showers from worsening dry skin. When the humidity drops or your skin feels dry, be sure to:
  • Close the bathroom door.
  • Use warm rather than hot water.
  • Limit your time in the shower or bath to 5 or 10 minutes.
  • Wash with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser.
  • Blot your skin gently dry with a towel.
  • Slather on the moisturiser immediately after drying your skin.

Hot water strips natural oils and hydration from the skin, which makes it easier for skin to lose water into the atmosphere.

2. Apply moisturiser immediately after washingDon’t wait until the skin is dry to apply moisturizer. The best time to apply moisturizers like creams or lotions is immediately following a shower when you gently towel off excess water. But the window is short, It’s best to apply moisturizers and products within 10 minutes of showering to trap water molecules into the skin. Find your winter moisturiser

3. Read Skincare Ingredients

Instead of buying a lotion or cream claiming to “heal dry skin,” be sure to check and see what’s inside- rich shea butter? Vitamins like E and C? Oils like Argan, Avocado? You’re good then!

If your skin is dry, find an oil-based cream or lotion like the Ultra Rich face cream. And if you have sensitive skin, it’s best to use products with Calendula, the magic herb to skin irritations. Such as the Sensitive Skin face cream.

You’ll also want to discontinue any moisturizers that contain alcohol or fragrances, which can exacerbate dry skin.

Switch to a heavier cream, especially if you are prone to dry skin, and don’t forget to moisturize your body too. This means choosing a cream rather than a lotion. And don’t forget the SPF in your morning routine even in colder months.”

4. Swap out your moisturizer for a winter-friendly formula

Winter is time to use products that are richer and have higher percentage of good oils.

5. Lips Get Dry, Too

Keep a lip balm close at hand at all times. The best way to treat dry and cracked lips is with a lip balm that will seep into your lips.

And to make it even better- scrub your lips once in a while, you can find many Diy recipes in the blog!

6.Pay Attention to Nails

“Nails have the potential for damage thanks to harsh manicures and products.

Now, i have some news for you…for a long time i was looking for a natural gel nail color that won’t damage my nails and will be long lasting. Couldn’t find it so i decided to bring it over and offer it in Pure salon!

So yes, a new, natural, vegan, long lasting gel nails polish is on the menu!

  1. Stop using skin care products that contain any of the following:

Alcohol

  • Alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA)
  • Fragrance, including deodorant soaps
  • Retinoids

Avoiding these products will help your skin retain its natural oils.

  1. Wear gloves. Our hands are often the first place we notice dry skin. You can reduce dry, raw skin by putting on gloves before you:
  • Go outdoors in winter.
  • Perform tasks that require you to get your hands wet.
  • Get chemicals, greases, and other substances on your hands.
  1. Choose non-irritating clothes and laundry detergent. When our skin is dry and raw even clothes and laundry detergent can be irritating. To avoid this:
  • Wear cotton or silk under your clothing made of wool or another material that feels rough

   10.  Stay warm without cozying up to a fireplace or other heat source. Sitting in front of an open flame or other heat source can dry your skin.

  1. Follow a healthy diet

The building blocks for healthy hair, skin, and nails include varying degrees of proteins, fats, and vitamins.

Try to follow a diet that includes “healthy fats” such as olive oil, avocados, salmon, a daily multi-vitamin, proteins, and at least half a liter of water.

Hydration levels and water intake can change day-to-day, and your skin will reflect that—looking duller and aged within a day or two of decreased intake, so…drink water, even more this season and eat water contained foods!

  1. Add moisture to the air. Plug in a humidifier. If you can, check your home heating system to find out if you have a humidifier on the system — and whether it’s working.
